Joanne Mitchell CV – Producer/Director/writer/film-maker

Joanne started off her career studying at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has since enjoyed many years fulfilling a varied career as an actor covering Theatre, TV, Radio and Film.

However, in the past 10 years her love of storytelling and film has lead her down another route of writing, producing and now directing.

With her partner, she set up Mitchell-Brunt Films and to date the company have made a number of short films and 5 independent genre movies – all of which have played globally at international film festivals including Frightfest, Fantasia, Grimmfest, Screamfest, Nevada, Leeds International Film festival to name but a few. All have had international sales and distribution.

In the past few years, Jo has become more and more interested and focused in directing.
Her short film, ‘Sybil’ premiered at Frightfest and continued to have an international successful festival run, culminating in being screened on the platform, Alter.

Her second award winning short film, ‘The Outing’ – starring Julie Hesmondhalgh, Con O’Neill and Elizabeth Rider and written by Lindsay Williams, Produced by Karen Newman, is still continuing on it’s successful International festival run.

Most recently she has joined forces with Catalyst Pictures and Bander Films, directing her first feature film (as part of a three picture deal), which is due to be released in 2024.
Part of their slate which is showcasing all female filmmakers and female lead stories, she wrapped December 2022. Filmed entirely in Belgrade, Serbia, it is produced by Zoe Stewart and stars James Fleet, Rebecca Calder and Sacharissa Claxton.

Jo was nominated as Frightfest and Screen International’s Rising Star of the Genre in 2017 – the only female nomination amongst some amazing genre talent.
